Antidote to the News

Does the world news have you distressed and fearful? It has the potential to, that is for certain. I just scanned a bit of the latest news, and it could send the most stouthearted into a panic. Why?

First, the secular news does not have a Catholic framework, or worldview; hence, it lacks that one thing necessary: to know Christ Jesus.

Secondly, the news, or let us say the writers of the news, do not profess or clothe the news with the other great figure of the world: the Blessed Virgin Mary. If said writers knew that, at one point in time, God had created the Singular Lady who is the Immaculate Conception, the news would look much different.

So, when reading or observing the news of the day, keep your wits about you, keep your Catholic mind about you; and, if necessary, take a glance at the antidote that God has provided to sin, chaos, and world strife:

Does such thinking mean we live in a la la land, devoid of concern for world events?

No. It means we sanely look at the things of this world, while firmly placing them where they belong: in the arms of God. St. Paul did this while imprisoned; and, conversely, while free. He surrendered his life to God in whatever circumstances he encountered.

As we remain in the Great Novena to the Immaculate Conceptionlet us take up our beads while remaining in the hearts of Jesus and Mary. Our Catholic ancestors modeled this stance; as St. Francis de Sales said:

“Let us run to Mary, and, as her little children, cast ourselves into her arms with a perfect confidence.”

And, the voice of Jesus Christ calls:

“Come to me, all you that labour, and are burdened, and I will refresh you. [29] Take up my yoke upon you, and learn of me, because I am meek, and humble of heart: and you shall find rest to your souls. [30] For my yoke is sweet and my burden light.”  ~Mt 11; 28-30, source

May you have a good day.
